Sergeant Alex Hamzy was an eight-year veteran of the Bristol Police Department who was killed in the line of duty on October 12, 2022. At just 34 years old, Alex lived a life of accomplishments that reads more like a person who was decades older.
In January of 2023, Louise Lauretano DeMars, a well-known figure in the Bristol community, passed away at the age of 78 and left a bequest in her will to continue her legacy through a fund at Main Street Community Foundation.
Main Street Community Foundation has awarded a total of $153,364 through its general grant cycle to 44 local organizations that are committed to serving the residents of Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington, or Wolcott.
Main Street Community Foundation is proud to connect students in need to donors with a passion for education through the Foundation’s scholarship program. This year, 167 students have been awarded a total of $334,874 in scholarships.
In 2006, the Plainville Community Fund was established at Main Street Community Foundation by a group of community leaders in Plainville.
