HARTFORD, CT -- As part of Hartford Business Journal's efforts to spotlight the important role of nonprofits, and the businesses that support them, they've launched their inaugural Community Excellence & Nonprofit Awards.  The independent panel of judges — Susan D. Sadecki, president and CEO, Main Street Community Foundation; Eric Daniels, partner, Robinson & Cole LLP; and David Garvey, director, nonprofit leadership program and adjunct professor, Department of Public Policy, UConn — selected the winners, who were nominated by the public, in seven different categories ranging from corporate citizenship and volunteer of the year to nonprofit and nonprofit leader of the year. Honorees for the Partnership Award include: include The Hartford, City of Hartford, Hartford Public Library, and CCP members Aetna Inc., and Travelers Cos.

Community Foundation Celebrates Record Year and Elects Directors

BRISTOL, CT -- Before a gathering of board members, past leadership and staff at Main Street Community Foundation’s Annual Meeting, the Foundation celebrated 2017, which saw the distribution of $1.7 million in grants and scholarships to benefit the residents of Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington and Wolcott through programs and community leadership initiatives.

Barnes Grant to Fund Southington Drug Addiction and Prevention Efforts

SOUTHINGTON, CT -- A wellness grant from the Bradley Barnes and Leila Upson Barnes Memorial Trust is helping local groups educate teachers on drug trends, fund treatment for addicted youth and provide more counseling services to families of the addicted. Main Street Community Foundation, which oversees the trust, gave $25,600 to LISA Inc., a local non-profit which is partnering with the Southington Town-Wide Effort to Promote Success and the town’s Youth Services to provide addiction prevention and treatment.
