Summer Youth Learning and Employment Program to serve 1,500 of the Region’s Youth

HARTFORD, CT -- Capital Workforce Partners (CWP) is pleased to announce that the Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program (SYELP) will serve nearly 1,500 youth throughout North Central Connecticut at a time when youth and families are being disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 and high unemployment. The sources of SYELP funding include a $1 million commitment from the City of Hartford, $300,000 from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, $150,000 from the Travelers Foundation, $60,000 from the JP Morgan Chase Foundation, $15,000 from the Bank of America Foundation, and $34,500 from the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority (CHEFA). Funds from the State of CT Youth Employment Program, and the CT Department of Children and Families have also been committed.

Hartford Foundation and First Book Award $1 Million in Grants to Six Connecticut School Districts for Computers and Home Internet Access, Funded by The LEGO Group and The LEGO Foundation

HARTFORD, CT -- Six school districts in Connecticut will begin the school year with new Chromebooks and home Internet connectivity, enabling distance learning for the first time for nearly 3,000 students from underserved communities. The $1 million initiative will support students in kindergarten through Grade 5 in the Bloomfield, East Hartford, Manchester, Vernon, Windsor, and Windsor Locks school districts. The grants, awarded by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and made possible through funding from The LEGO Group and The LEGO Foundation, are being distributed by First Book, a nonprofit social enterprise focused on equal access to quality education.

Hartford Foundation and the Travelers Championship Provide Grant to Launch Connecticut Institute for Youth and Police Relations in Greater Hartford

HARTFORD, CT -- The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and the Travelers Championship are providing a two-year grant to the University of New Haven’s Center for Advanced Policing (CAP) and Tow Youth Justice Institute (TYJI) to launch the Connecticut Institute for Youth and Police Relations (CIYPR) in Greater Hartford.

Stanley Black & Decker, Hartford Foundation Donate $100K to Support UConn Health Workers

HARTFORD, CT -- Stanley Black & Decker and the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving say they teamed to donate $100,000 to UConn Health workers combating the deadly COVID-19 coronavirus. Each donated $50,000 to help the Farmington healthcare facility purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) and pay for 10 weeks of childcare support and temporary housing for employees while they treat patients with COVID-19, officials announced Monday.

Bank of America, Travelers and City of Hartford Contributions Will Enhance Hartford Small Business Emergency Grant Program

HARTFORD, CT -- In April, the City of Hartford, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, HEDCO, Inc., and Capital For Change launched a $1 million Small Business Emergency Assistance Grant Program. The aim is to provide at least 100 small Hartford businesses with a grant of up to $10,000 to make lease or mortgage payments, pay salaries, make vendor payments, pay taxes, or make modifications to their physical space or technology to comply with social distancing guidelines. In an effort to support additional Hartford small businesses, Bank of America and Travelers have each made grants of $125,000 and the City of Hartford has allocated an additional $125,000 to the initiative.

Cornerstone, other nonprofits get grants for COVID-19 response

HARTFORD, CT -- The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has announced a round of grants totaling $716,334 to several nonprofits around the state, including many that are in or serve the north-central region. The grants constitute the fourth round of funding as part of the charitable organization’s COVID-19 Response Fund, which was launched in March, bringing the total amount donated through the fund to about $4 million.

City of Hartford Distrubutes Thousands of PPE Through Partnerships with State of Connecticut, Philanthropic Foundations

HARTFORD, CT -- Today the City of Hartford conducted two significant distributions of PPE.  The first distribution today is in partnership with the State of Connecticut and CBIA-CONNSTEP, which will provide more than 3,500 recently donated surgical masks to more than 100 essential businesses in Hartford that registered online. A partnership between the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, and New Britain medical equipment manufacturer OKAY Industries, Inc., produced 4,000 face shields for more than a dozen regional non-profits.

Enfield Food Shelf gets $25000 grant as it increases services during the pandemic
