BOSTON, MA -- The Tow Foundation, The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, and Craig Newmark Philanthropies have partnered with GroundTruth to support Report for America in its efforts to place 1,000 local reporters in host newsrooms across America over the next five years. The GroundTruth Project, a nonprofit news organization that supports and inspires a new generation of journalists, will receive a total of $650,000 in multi-year funding for its new initiative.

WATERBURY, CT -- In its May grant round, Connecticut Community Foundation awarded a total of $18,800 in sponsorship grants to 23 nonprofit organizations hosting community events in Greater Waterbury and the Litchfield Hills in the coming months. HARTFORD, CT -- Despite a slow decline in the number of Connecticut foundations and individuals making charitable donations and grants, giving rose 11 percent to a record $5 billion in 2015, the most recent for which data is available, the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy (CCP) said Tuesday. The approximately $500 million increase follows a dip of 3.2 percent the year prior.

In a report released Tuesday, the council said giving increased across three tracked sources: individuals, bequests and foundations. The majority of Connecticut’s charitable giving in 2015 came from individual donations —both traditional giving and bequests — which rose 76 percent to $3.81 billion.
