HARTFORD, CT -- The Latino Endowment Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving hosted more than 70 people at the Lyceum in Hartford on Thursday, May 31 to participate in a discussion on the local impacts of Hurricanes Irma and Maria on the Greater Hartford region. Focusing on those who had been displaced from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, the convening featured a passionate discussion on how residents and organizations worked together under extremely trying circumstances to provide aid to those in need, think about what still needed to be done and how to plan for potential future challenges.

Charitable Giving in Connecticut Hits New High of $5B
NEW HAVEN, CT -- Charitable giving rose by 11 percent to reach $5 billion in 2015, the most recent year for which data is available, according to the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy. In a report released Tuesday, the council said giving increased across three tracked sources: individuals, bequests and foundations. The majority of Connecticut’s charitable giving in 2015 came from individual donations —both traditional giving and bequests — which rose 76 percent to $3.81 billion.
