HARTFORD, CT -- The Hartford Foundation remains committed to supporting civic engagement across our region. Last year, the Hartford Foundation awarded 20 grants totaling $448,400 over eighteen months to support voter engagement and Census participation activities among several underrepresented groups.
HARTFORD, CT -- Capital Workforce Partners (CWP) is pleased to announce that the Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program (SYELP) will serve nearly 1,500 youth throughout North Central Connecticut at a time when youth and families are being disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 and high unemployment. The sources of SYELP funding include a $1 million commitment from the City of Hartford, $300,000 from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, $150,000 from the Travelers Foundation, $60,000 from the JP Morgan Chase Foundation, $15,000 from the Bank of America Foundation, and $34,500 from the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority (CHEFA). Funds from the State of CT Youth Employment Program, and the CT Department of Children and Families have also been committed.
BRANFORD, CT — Although the ceremony was via Zoom this year, the Branford High School scholarship awardees were no less impressive. The Branford Community Foundation was honored to provide awards to 29 graduating seniors from Branford High School.
HARTFORD, CT -- Six school districts in Connecticut will begin the school year with new Chromebooks and home Internet connectivity, enabling distance learning for the first time for nearly 3,000 students from underserved communities. The $1 million initiative will support students in kindergarten through Grade 5 in the Bloomfield, East Hartford, Manchester, Vernon, Windsor, and Windsor Locks school districts. HARTFORD, CT -- Partnership for Strong Communities in Hartford recently received a $5,000 grant from Chelsea Groton Foundation to support the operations of HOMEConnecticut.
NEW HAVEN, CT -- A new public-private partnership is offering low-interest and partially forgivable loans to local minority-owned and women-owned small businesses. The initial loan pool of $1.5 million will offer loans of up to $25,000 for small businesses located in New Haven and the lower Naugatuck Valley cities of Derby and Ansonia. The Partnership Loan Program for Minority- and Women-Owned Businesses in New Haven and the Lower Naugatuck Valley was created through a partnership among The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, HEDCO, Inc., the Amour Propre Fund and The City of New Haven.

HARTFORD, CT -- The Travelers Companies, Inc. today announced that the 2020 Travelers Championship generated more than $1.6 million for more than 100 charitable organizations. Since Travelers became title sponsor in 2007, the event has generated more than $20 million for more than 750 charities across the region.
TORRINGTON, CT -- From June 15th - July 31st, more than 50 nonprofits are participating in Northwest Corner Gives (www.northwestcornergives.org), a crowdfunding giving platform, created by the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation to help local nonprofits raise matching funds for Covid-19 related expenses.
CHESHIRE, CT -- A team effort full of heart will help more than 100 non-profits in more than 20 towns in the Greater Waterbury and Litchfield Hills areas continue their important work during the COVID-19 pandemic. That team effort is happening at Marion Manufacturing in Cheshire, where workers have volunteered their time to unpack a truck load of PPE so representatives from the non-profits could pick them up. We’re talking about 200,000 surgical masks, 4,000 face shields, close to 800 N-95 masks. All of that made possible because of donations made to a COVID-19 Response Fund by the Greater Waterbury United Way and the Connecticut Community Foundation.
