$1.3 million distributed to Greater New Haven nonprofits helping vulnerable communities

NEW HAVEN, CT -- Approximately $2.6 million has been raised for nonprofits helping vulnerable communities amid the coronavirus pandemic, half of which already has been awarded. The Greater New Haven COVID-19 Community Fund recently distributed a second round of grants totaling $677,000 to 36 organizations after giving out almost $700,000 in the first ground. The fund launched in late March as a partnership between the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven and United Way of Greater New Haven to raise money and get resources quickly to area nonprofits helping vulnerable communities affected by the COVID-19 crisis.

CT Health Foundation awards grants in New Haven, Bridgeport, Cheshire to fight coronavirus

NEW HAVEN — The Connecticut Health Foundation has awarded $585,000 in grants to organizations across the state to help residents in need of financial support and health care during the coronavirus pandemic. The effort includes a $150,000 donation to the Connecticut United Ways COVID-19 Response Fund, “which provides direct financial assistance to individuals who are struggling because of the pandemic,” and $165,000 to the Cheshire-based Community Health Center Association of Connecticut to help health centers expand “their capacity to deliver telehealth services and to meet immediate needs of patients.”

Governor Lamont Announces Statewide Launch of Free Online Job Training Program for Unemployment Claimants

HARTFORD, CT -- Governor Ned Lamont today announced the statewide expansion of a program that will make free online learning licenses available to recipients of unemployment insurance, including those who have been impacted by the economic fallout of the COVID-19 public health crisis. The SkillUp CT program will significantly expand access to comprehensive online course work from a leading global provider for thousands of Connecticut residents. The program will be funded by the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority (CHEFA) under an existing grant to the state’s five regional workforce boards.

Child & Family Guidance Center Continues Services During COVID-19 Thanks to Grant from Two Funders

NORWALK, CT -- The Child & Family Guidance Center, (CFGC), has actively put in place swift and dramatic measures to ensure the safety of their workforce and community while continuing essential services to the neediest families. Key to making this possible has been a generous $25,000 grant from The Fairfield County’s Community Foundation, and a  $10,000 grant from Near & Far Aid to provide telehealth services, deep cleaning and hygiene services as well as general support for the continuation of services during the COVID-19 crisis.
