Hospital for Special Care Receives $150K Grant to Help Expand Autism Services

NEW BRITAIN, CT -- The American Savings Foundation has awarded a $150,000 grant to support expansion of the Autism Center at Hospital for Special Care in New Britain, including development of a partial hospitalization program and an education and day center.  Maria Falvo, president and CEO of American Savings Foundation, said the new program will help reduce waiting lists for inpatient care by creating a resource for youth who need more intense services than are currently available at an outpatient level.

New Issue Brief Addresses Northwest Connecticut's Addiction Crisis

SHARON, CT -- The Foundation for Community Health has launched a new publication series, Cultivating Solutions, designed to share information, raise awareness and advocate for change. The inaugural publication, "Addressing Northwest Connecticut's Addiction Crisis," tackles the addiction epidemic via an issue brief, future editions may vary in composition or format depending on the topic.

CHEFA Grant Goes to Wheeler Clinic for Dental Care Access

HARTFORD, CT -- On November 15, 2017, the Connecticut Health and Education Facilities Authority (CHEFA) Board voted to award a grant in the amount of $75,000 to Wheeler Clinic to expand critical dental care access for low-income Hartford patients at their new Family Health & Wellness Center on Woodland Street.

Environment and Human Health Embarks on a New Project to Encourage Schools to Be Healthier Places for Children

NEW HAVEN, CT -- Environment and Human Health, Inc. (EHHI), an organization of physicians and public health professionals, is embarking on a new project to make schools healthier places for students to attend. In January 2018, EHHI will begin visiting local health departments and superintendents of schools with a new brochure that lists 12 ways to make schools healthier environments for students. The Connecticut Health Foundation has underwritten the brochure.
