Hartford Leaders, Agencies Engage In Aid Talks And Waiting Game For Puerto Rican Families

HARTFORD, CT -- As people fleeing Puerto Rico begin to trickle into Connecticut, an informal coalition of city officials, philanthropists, hospitals, public schools and faith groups have been mobilizing, even as they face a big unknown: How many families will need their help? The disaster in Puerto Rico also has brought together a network of potential partners including Travelers, MetroHartford Alliance, United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut, and Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.

United Way 2-1-1 Continues to Respond to Hurricane Needs

ROCKY HILL, CT -- Recent natural disasters have resulted in United Way of Connecticut 2-1-1 supporting relief efforts both nationally and in Connecticut. Thanks to support from Connecticut United Ways and the State of Connecticut, 2-1-1 Connecticut has provided direct relief, helped coordinate relief efforts and is now working as part of the State's Emergency Management Unified Command response to support those evacuated or displaced by recent and tragic natural disasters.

Hurricane Relief Fund Growing

NEW BRITAIN, CT -- The newly created Hurricane Maria Puerto Rico Relief Fund has already received more than $20,000 in donations. The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain made a $5,000 donation to the fund on Friday to compliment the American Savings Foundation’s donation of $10,000. Other donations by members of the community have totaled more than $5,000.

Catholic Groups Aid Disaster Victims, At-risk New Haven youth

NEW HAVEN, CT -- The Knights of Columbus has raised more than $2.8 million for its outreach efforts in the wake of recent natural disasters that have plagued the southern U.S., Mexico and the Caribbean. Catholic Charities has announced that it was awarded a $20,000 grant from the United Way of Greater New Haven to help support Centro San José’s comprehensive educational and enrichment program for New Haven youth.

Aid for Puerto Rico: New Britain Community Leaders Rally to Support Those Devastated by Hurricane Maria

NEW BRITAIN, CT -- While millions on the island of Puerto Rico are still reeling and trying to make sense of the devastation wrought by Hurricane Maria, family and friends here in New Britain and the state of Connecticut are suffering along with them. To provide assistance, a coalition of city leaders and organizations have come together to help those in need through what will be a long period of recovery.
