Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation Announces New 2019 Healthy Food Fund Grants RFP
WELLESLEY, MA -- Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation has announced its 2019 Healthy Food Fund Grant Guidelines and RFP. The Foundation is looking to support 25 local nonprofit organizations located in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire that are primarily volunteer-powered to grow, glean or distribute fresh, free produce to low-income families and older adults. Grant awards will be up to $25,000 per year and are eligible for renewal for up to three years. A total of $625,000 will be awarded throughout the region in 2019.

HARTFORD, CT -- Conventional wisdom is that the total price charged by the state and its local governments in Connecticut is one of the most burdensome in the country. A common measure upon which this conclusion is based is the total amount we residents pay in state and local taxes, relative to our aggregate personal income, i.e., our capacity to pay. On this basis, the Tax Foundation tells us that Connecticut ranks either first or second highest in the nation, depending on which of two analytic models it uses. However, taxes are not the only price paid to governments. Residents also pay a number of fees and other charges, separate and distinct from taxes. By Bill Cibes
Newman's Own Distributes $200K to 5 Vets Organizations
WASHINGTON, DC -- The nation, writ large, has a moral responsibility to ensure the needs of veterans are met, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said at a ceremony where the Newman’s Own Foundation distributed funds to charities serving service members, their families and veterans. Marine Corps Gen. Joe Dunford praised Newman’s Own for its dedication to service members, veterans and their families. The group distributed $200,000 to five organizations during the Oct. 5 ceremony in the Pentagon’s Hall of Heroes.
