Are we prepared to meet the changing needs of this growing population?
With 600,000 residents age 60 and older, Connecticut’s 65+ population grew by 3.5%, about ten times faster than the general population from 2006 to 2009. Grantmakers learned about the changing needs of this sector and the challenges and issues confronting nonprofits, and gaps in services and promising practices for serving older adults.
Presenters Robert Cashel, President & CEO, Family and Children’s Agency; Rhonda R. Evans, Deputy Director, Connecticut Association for Community Action; Brenda Kelley, State Director, AARP Connecticut; Pat Schneider, 2nd Vice President, Connecticut Association of Senior Center Personnel, discussed the readiness of nonprofits to serve aging residents of the state and how private philanthropy can make a difference.
