Record-Setting Travelers Championship Nets $2 Million for Charity

HARTFORD, CT -- The 2018 Travelers Championship generated $2 million for more than 150 local charities throughout the region, the largest amount for charity generated in the history of Connecticut’s premier sporting event.  The record-setting total includes a $200,000 contribution from three-time Travelers Championship winner and 2018 champion Bubba Watson.

Travelers Announces the Start of the 2018 Travelers Championship

HARTFORD, CT -- The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TRV) today announced the start of the 2018 Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. This year’s tournament features many of the PGA TOUR’s top players, including defending champion Jordan Spieth, as well as Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, Brooks Koepka, Paul Casey, Patrick Reed and Bubba Watson. The Travelers Championship donates 100 percent of its net proceeds to charity and has generated more than $38 million since the event began in 1952. Since Travelers became title sponsor in 2007, the Travelers Championship has generated nearly $15 million for more than 700 nonprofit organizations throughout New England, including $1.7 million for more than 160 charities in 2017.

To Combat Teen Driving Deaths, Video Contest Theme is “Could This Be You?”

HARTFORD, CT -- In an ongoing effort to reduce the number of motor vehicle crashes among 16-to 19-year-olds and better alert teens and their parents of the dangers, the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles and Travelers are once again launching their annual Teen Safe Driving Video contest for high school students.  Entries are due by December 15, 2017.  Travelers will award up to $26,000 in cash prizes to the winning students and their high schools.

Marlene Ibsen, President, Travelers Foundation is the honorary chair and will present the Caroline M. Hewins Medal posthumously to Sharon O'Meara. O'Meara was a lead program officer at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving for many years, impacting hundreds of nonprofits and their clients in the Hartford Region, and was instrumental in creating the American Place at the Hartford Public Library.

Private Donations Will Support Hartford's Youth Service Corps For Second Year

In its first year, Mayor Luke Bronin’s youth service corps has put more than 200 young people to work on hundreds of projects across Hartford. The program, anchored last year by $2.2 million in private donations, has received enough funds to push ahead for another 12 months.
