(WESTPORT, CT) Newman’s Own Foundation, the organization started by the late actor and philanthropist Paul Newman, has made grants totaling $950,000 to 11 organizations in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
The first round of grants, made shortly after the October storm, addressed immediate needs relating to food shortages. The latest grants, made in December, support rebuilding efforts. Altogether, the funding represents a commitment from Newman’s Own Foundation to help those most severely affected by the storm in the northeast, both in the near-term and during long-term recovery.
“We are saddened by the hardship felt by so many people along the East Coast in the wake of Hurricane Sandy,” said Robert Forrester, Newman’s Own Foundation President and CEO. “We are grateful to the nonprofits in the region that are extending themselves to serve those in need throughout this difficult time.”
The organizations that have received hurricane relief grants are:
- Brooklyn Community Foundation
- City Harvest
- Community FoodBank of New Jersey
- Community Foundation of New Jersey
- Connecticut Food Bank, Inc.
- Food Bank for New York City
- The Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties
- The New York Community Trust
- Person-to-Person
- Project Hospitality, Inc.
