Grants are part of additional $1 million given to celebrate Tufts Health Plan’s 40th anniversary
WATERTOWN, MA -- Tufts Health Plan Foundation donated $250,000 to Connecticut non-profits focused on health equity and the social determinants of health, including organizations working for addiction recovery, improving access to affordable healthy food and healthy aging. The grants are among 40 the Foundation distributed to organizations in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island in honor of Tufts Health Plan’s 40th anniversary.
In 2018, Tufts Health Plan, in partnership with Hartford Healthcare, launched CarePartners of Connecticut, which offers Medicare Advantage plans to Connecticut seniors. CarePartners leverages the decades of experience of both organizations in providing high quality care and award-winning health care coverage.
“We recognize that non-profit organizations are on the frontlines of service and play a crucial role in building stronger and healthier communities for everyone in Connecticut,” said Tom Croswell, president and CEO of Tufts Health Plan. “These angel grants are a way of saying ‘thank you’ to those organizations addressing the economic and social conditions that influence the health of our diverse communities and helping them to keep up the great work they do.”
The grants support a range of nonprofit organizations doing exemplary work to promote community health and wellness. The organizations receiving grants work on a variety of issues, including housing and homelessness, assistance to vulnerable children and families, and ensuring a complete count in the upcoming U.S. Census. (Census data are used to determine the distribution of federal funds, grants and support to states, counties and communities.)

- Health Equity Solutions Connecticut
- Hispanic Alliance of Southeastern Connecticut Connecticut
- North Central Area Agency on Aging Connecticut
- Senior Resources Agency on Aging Connecticut
- Southwestern CT Agency on Aging and Independent Living Connecticut
- Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging Connecticut
Tufts Health Plan Foundation has given more than $35 million to community organizations since 2008 and will give nearly $5 million in community grants this year. The grants continue Tufts Health Plan Foundation’s longstanding tradition of giving back to the community and the $1 million anniversary grants are above the Foundation’s annual grantmaking levels.
