Foundation milestone marks a $245,000 increase in grants over last year
WEST HARTFORD, CT -- The Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford surpassed its all-time record for annual grant making, awarding 1,118 grants for a total of $4.5 million, a $245,000 increase from its previous fiscal year. The Foundation invests $3 million in the Greater Hartford Jewish Community and $1.5 million impacts both the Jewish and general communities in the US and around the world.
“This record-breaking fiscal year underscores the power of individual and collective philanthropy to solve problems and increase social impact,” said Jacob Schreiber, president and chief executive officer of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford. “We offer donors a tailored experience so they can explore their philanthropic goals and support the causes they care most about. Through the generosity of our donors, we are privileged to advance our shared goal of Tikkun Olam (Hebrew for repairing the world) -- and to support the work of a plethora of nonprofit organizations.”
Grants were awarded to organizations locally and nationally, in Israel and around the world. Organizations use the grants for a wealth of activities including: supporting music therapy programs to help improve the lives of people with developmental disabilities; assisting with the health and wellness needs of the elderly; providing education scholarships to help students afford the increasing cost of higher education, and supporting the growth of programs of nonprofit organizations that service critical community needs.
These record-breaking totals can be attributed to The Foundation’s increasing asset base; harnessing the power of endowment; and an increasing belief from donors in philanthropy to transform communities – today and in perpetuity.
The Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford was founded 45 years ago with an initial gift of $50,000 and has now grown to more than $120 million in assets. The Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford, a proud partner to the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford and a member of the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy, is one of the largest charitable foundations in the state. The Foundation offers an array of options for every size of charitable investment, which includes family giving, donor advised funds, social impact opportunities, and Jewish funding options.
