HARTFORD, CT -- Dressing to impress is important, especially when job hunting. But what happens when you don’t have the means to buy professional clothes? That’s where Dress for Success Hartford steps in.
Since 1988 they’ve provided business attire to more than 7,700 underprivileged women to help them secure employment.
In order to help so many women, Dress for Success relies on outside donations. We are pleased our clothing drive was incredibly successful and proud to have made a financial contribution to support the organization.
“I personally extend my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Eversource Energy for working to aid the women of our state,” said Executive Director of Dress for Success Hartford Sara Avatapalli. “This support of our mission will have an immediate impact on our ability to provide women we serve with career development programs and services. These efforts will assist our organization to continue our mission and give women the chance to take charge of their lives and forge stronger futures.”
Sponsored by the Women’s Business Resource Group (WBRG) collection bins were placed in multiple Eversource locations including the Berlin, CT campus and the Westwood, MA campus. Bins overflowed with donations. Our employees collected hundreds of pieces of clothing items such as dress pants, suits, dresses, blouses, and even handbags.
“I think it’s amazing how employees step up when they’re asked,” said Eversource Employee Edna Karanian, who is also a member of the company’s WBRG.
“The people who work here want to give back to the neighborhoods where they work and live. I find it really refreshing.”
Besides dressing clients and making them feel their best, Dress for Success Hartford also offers a variety of leadership programs that help build confidence and financial independence.
“Dress for Success is so much more than just giving a suit to a woman,” said Eversource Employee Melissa Reynolds, who also sits on the Dress for Success Hartford’s board of directors. “They offer mentoring and networking programs which promote career development, employment retention and help women to navigate relevant workplace issues.”
