Funds Support Education, Economic Mobility, Access to Health and Basic Needs
HARTFORD, CT -- United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut today announced $7 million in awards for programs and partnerships that benefit local children, youth and families.
The awards help improve lives by focusing on youth success, economic mobility, access to health and basic needs.
“United Way finds the best way to bring people and resources together to ensure children and families succeed,” said Paula S. Gilberto, President and CEO of United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut. “When you give directly to United Way, you’re making a difference for local families in our 40-town region.”
Awards have been made for the following:
- Nearly $4 million to provide children with early childhood education, improve grade-level reading skills and ensure middle grade students have the academic skills needed for high school success.
- More than $1 million to connect individuals with skills and training for jobs in the region as well as the financial coaching services and supports to achieve their goals.
- Nearly $2 million to provide access to information and referral services and immediate assistance such as food, shelter, disaster relief and services for individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
“With the help of our donors and workplace campaign partners, we’re able to raise dollars that support results-driven nonprofit programs, services and initiatives,” said Gilberto. “The United Way Community Campaign is one of the best ways to invest in success for local children, youth and families.”
