Jacob Schreiber Appointed President and CEO at the Jewish Community Foundation

WEST HARTFORD, CT -- The Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford is pleased to announce the appointment of Jacob Schreiber as its President and CEO, effective September 1, 2018.
 
“I speak on behalf of the entire search committee and the Board of Trustees when I say how excited we are to have Jacob lead this new chapter for the Foundation,” stated Leigh Newman, Board Chair. “Jacob brings a wealth of experience as a Jewish communal leader with a track record of innovation and creativity and a lifelong commitment to living Jewish values, the common thread that connects and inspires us all.”
 
Jacob’s professional career has been focused on leading Jewish communal organizations; including most recently as CEO of Goodman Jewish Family Services of Broward County, Florida. Jacob previously led the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City; served as Executive Director at the Hillels of Georgia and has been an award-winning journalist and was the Editor of the Atlanta Jewish Times. Click here to read more about Jacob.

Jacob Schreiber

A veteran non-profit executive, Jewish professional and journalist, Jacob specializes in piloting Jewish organizations and impacting lives through values-based processes grounded in boldness, passion and innovation. Before coming to JCFGH, Jacob served as CEO of Goodman Jewish Family Services of Broward County, Florida. While there, he led an entrepreneurial team that established Jewish Family Home Care, which provided care aides to 800 Holocaust survivors, and a kosher food pantry that aims to wipe out Jewish hunger in Broward County.

Prior to that, Jacob was President and CEO of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City. In five years, Jacob helped transform an organization struggling with major deficits into a thriving JCC with sixfigure surpluses and 25 percent growth in membership and major program areas. He also helped lead the JCC through some heart-wrenching times in the wake of the April 2014 anti-Semitic attack on the JCC, which claimed the lives of two people.

Raised in NYC, Jacob has lived in Washington, DC, Southern California, Atlanta and Israel. Before going to Kansas City, Jacob served as Executive Director of Hillels of Georgia. He also held key positions as an analyst, community organizer and/or program developer with the Anti-Defamation League, American Israel Public Affairs Committee, and Joint Distribution Committee – and as a speechwriter for Israel Finance Minister Avraham Shochat.

An award-winning journalist, Jacob was the Editor of the Atlanta Jewish Times and a Staff Writer for The Jerusalem Post, for which he reported from Jordan, Syria and Israel. He holds a Master’s degree in ArabIsraeli Affairs from The Hebrew University. In his spare time, Jacob enjoys playing tennis, basketball and softball, fishing, hiking and reading. Jacob is happily married to Dr. Edna Levy and they have 3 wonderful children.
