Susan's conversation, Change in the Land of Steady Habits, focused on the shifting demographics in Connecticut and the impact of these changes on schools and equity in education.

Susan's scholarly and research interests center around the causes and cures for unequal opportunities for racial, ethnic and linguistic minorities in the United States. She is particularly concerned about the challenges of schooling and childrearing in high-poverty, urban neighborhoods. She has lectured, studied and written about related subjects for two decades as a journalist, scholar and activist across the United States, in South Africa and in Japan. Susan is also the author of The Children in Room E4, a narrative account of the Sheff v. O'Neill civil rights case and a classroom in Hartford, Connecticut.
