Members are invited to a special workshop on Funders and Advocacy: What You Need To Know
Advocacy is a powerful tool to increase impact and further your mission. Recognizing this, many funders are exploring this important area of work, and have questions about what they can, and cannot, do when it comes to advocacy. The good news: private and public foundations can engage in advocacy, as well as fund grantees to advocate on issues. This workshop will help provide what you need to know to engage more confidently in the advocacy space.
This workshop will feature:
-
State and national experts presenting on the rules that govern funder work in the advocacy space
-
Time for technical assistance and answers to your questions
-
An update on CCP’s new strategic initiative in the area of policy and advocacy
After this workshop, you will have a clear understanding of the kinds of advocacy activities your foundation can safely engage in and best practices for grantmaking to give your grantees the most flexibility under the law for their advocacy efforts.
Not sure how to make the case for funding advocacy? Uncertain whether you can fund grantees that lobby? Wondering whether your public or private foundation can speak out on a particular issue? This training answers these questions and more!
Presenters:

About Alliance for Justice:
Alliance for Justice (AFJ) is a national association of 120 organizations representing a broad array of civil rights, environmental, immigration, disability, consumer, workers, women’s, LGBTQ, and other groups committed to democratic values and the creation of an equitable, just, and free society.
Bolder Advocacy is a special project of the Alliance for Justice, bringing the nation's top experts together to provide nonprofit and foundation leaders essential training and resources.
For further background, you can review CCP’s March 2022 training with Alliance for Justice. It provides guidance on what funders need to know from both the state and federal level, helps gain a clear understanding of the kinds of advocacy activities your foundation can safely engage in, and discuss best practices for grantmaking to give your grantees the most flexibility under the law for their advocacy efforts.
