NEW BRITAIN, CT -- New windows, air exchange ventilation unit, and playground surfacing will now be a reality for the Pamela E. Hill Childcare wing of the YWCA of New Britain, thanks to a $69,425 grant from CHEFA, the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority. The YWCA is dedicated to serving New Britain and surrounding communities with positive health, childcare, and social programming for children and families. The grant was made in November 2017, allowing for the much needed installation of the windows, ventilation unit, and playground surfacing to start soon at the YWCA’s Franklin Square building.

After touring the facility with Executive Director, Robin Sharp, and local, state, and federally elected representatives/staff in February, Betty Sugerman Weintraub, CHEFA’s Grant Program Manager, remarked “This grant supports CHEFA’s childcare funding priority. This grant will allow the Y’s childcare wing to operate more efficiently and will provide infrastructure repairs that will benefit children, their families and Y staff members.” In further remarks she went on to say “CHEFA is one of the few funders that award capital expenditure grants, we are proud of our Board of Directors for recognizing this important niche.” CHEFA receives no state funds.

In total, at the November 2017 CHEFA Board meeting, $787,835 was awarded to twelve nonprofit organizations representing the education, healthcare, childcare, and cultural sectors that are the core funding priorities for the agency.
