BRISTOL, CT -- MOVING FORWARD TOGETHER is the theme for the Women & Girls’ Fund at Main Street Community Foundation’s 18th Annual Wonder of Women (WOW) event to be held on Tuesday, April 23 at the Aqua Turf in Plantsville. This year’s guest speaker, Colleen Kelly Alexander, is a lifelong athlete and motivational speaker who inspires positive change, contribution, determination and actionable gratitude. With her indomitable spirit and incredible story of survival, Colleen teaches others how to aim higher, be stronger and use adversity as a catalyst to make the world a better, brighter place.
WOW is an annual event whose proceeds support grants for programs that make it possible for women and girls in Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington, and Wolcott to improve the conditions and opportunities in their lives. Since 2001, and because of the community’s generosity, the Women & Girls’ Fund has been able to award grants totaling over $500,000 to organizations who offer these programs to women and girls.
The Women & Girls’ Fund invites you to join us to create positive change for local women and girls. You will hear Colleen’s inspiring story of survival, her resilience and ability to find gratitude in all she does along with how she honors the heroes in her life. The evening will also highlight stories directly from individuals impacted by the Fund’s annual grant making.
“We are so grateful to all those who continue to support the annual WOW event each year. Proceeds from the 2018 WOW event enabled us to award grants totaling $55,227 to 19 local organizations to improve the lives of local women and girls,” stated Jeanine Audette, Co-Chair of the 2019 WOW Event.
Sponsorships and tickets to the event are still available – your generosity will help the Women & Girls’ Fund increase the amount of funding available to programs supporting women and girls in our communities.
