Awards to Support Hard-Working Families and Children
HARTFORD, CT -- United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut today announced $7.5 million in awards for programs and partnerships that benefit children, youth and families in local communities.
The awards provide access to programs that promote early childhood education; grade-level reading; saving money; connecting people with good jobs; and, immediate emergency assistance, such as food and shelter.
“United Way understands where the needs are within our communities,” said Paula S. Gilberto, President and CEO of United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut. “When you give to United Way we put your donation to use in a way that makes a difference.”
Here’s how:
- More than $4 million to give children access to quality early learning programs as well as extended school day and summer learning opportunities.
- More than $1 million to connect individuals with skills and training for jobs in our region as well as the financial services and supports to achieve their goals.
- Nearly $2 million to provide access to information and referral services and immediate assistance such as food, shelter, disaster relief and services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
“It’s thanks to our donors and workplace partners that together, we’re finding the best ways to help our community,” said Gilberto. “More children and youth will succeed in school and more families will achieve financial security, lead healthier lives and have access to critical basic needs as a result of the United Way Community Campaign.”
