BRIDGEPORT, CT -- Members of the Greater Bridgeport Family Economic Security Coalition, elected government officials, coordinated by the Connecticut Association for Human Services (CAHS) and Internal Revenue Service have kicked-off the start of the  2019 tax season. VITA is a program sponsored by the IRS, where trained volunteers prepare and file state and federal returns for low- and moderate-income families for free. Families who generally had an income of $55,000 or less in 2018 may qualify for additional tax credits. This year’s VITA campaign is made possible with support from the United Way of Coastal Fairfield County, Citi Community Development, Fairfield County’s Community Foundation, and Near & Far Aid.

HARTFORD, CT -- In May 2017, Alberto Ibargüen, president of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, came to Hartford and announced a surprise in the form of a $50,000 matching grant to the Latino Endowment Fund (LEF) at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. Less than two years after Ibargüen’s announcement, the Latino Endowment Fund is pleased to announce that it has successfully raised $50,000 making it eligible for the dollar for dollar grant, thus doubling the matching contribution from new or renewing memberships and other donations.
