WELLESLEY, MA -- Armed with gardening gloves, shovels, paint brushes and bug spray, volunteers in Manchester, New Hampshire weeded, and planted seeds and seedlings in the community garden, built a children’s play area and picnic tables, and hosted healthy cooking workshops outdoors on the campus of the Manchester Community College. In Maine, volunteers built computer tables, mulched playground areas, and painted colorful murals at the Riverton Park Boys & Girls Club in Portland. Two full days of service, 125 volunteers and two organizations beyond appreciative for the support.
“We are so grateful to the many additional volunteers today that helped build picnic tables and a shade structure, create a natural playscape for families including a tree ID trail and a teepee, and maintain our forest gardens that provide additional fresh food for area families. Everyone working together is what helps us continue to build community into the garden,” said Mary Tebo Davis, UNH Cooperative Extension.
Building healthy communities for its neighbors is at the core of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care’s mission, encouraging employees to join together to give back and make our communities stronger and more vibrant for all.
Said one Maine volunteer, “As a relatively new employee to Harvard Pilgrim, this was my first time participating in a service day. I have to say I had a wonderful time, and was truly impressed. I had the opportunity to meet and work with so many terrific people. I can't wait for the next one. I'm also so thrilled to be working for a company with such a strong commitment to community and helping others.”
