WATERBURY, CT -- Thanks to the support of the American Savings Foundation and the Frederick W. Marzahl Memorial Fund, the Connecticut Junior Republic (CJR) is providing a six-week Work-Based Learning Summer Program for 40 at-risk and disadvantaged boys and girls from Waterbury. Generous grants of $24,000 from the American Savings Foundation, $10,000 from the Frederick W. Marzahl Memorial Fund, Bank of America, N.A., Trustee, and in-kind contributions from CJR, have funded this unique summer program, which includes vocational training in culinary arts, video and media production, horticulture and landscaping, and entrepreneurial skills development.

BRIDGEPORT, CT -- WPKN has been awarded a $5,000 grant from Newman’s Own Foundation, the independent foundation created by the late actor and philanthropist, Paul Newman. The award to WPKN was made as part of the foundation's commitment to support community broadcasting through independent radio. The grant to WPKN will be used to support the ongoing operating expenses of the station.

HAMDEN, CT -- The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven has been awarded a $15,000 contribution from AT&T to support a scholarship fund for Hamden High School students impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. BRANFORD, CT -- Bees and other natural pollinators are incredibly efficient little critters, but they could always use a little help fulfilling their unique role in the world’s ecosystem — and the Branford Fire Department, working with Sustainable CT, is happy to do what it can to help. Project organizers are asking the community to join the initiative by donating money or volunteering in the effort. All community donations will be doubled by Sustainable CT’s Community Match Fund, funded by the Smart Seed Fund, Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation, and the Connecticut Green Bank, provides a dollar-for-dollar match to donations raised from the community, doubling local investment in projects.

NORWALK, CT -- Norwalk Public Schools will launch a comprehensive initiative designed to examine and address educational equity in Norwalk. Starting immediately, the district will partner with Temple University's Dr. Edward Fergus on an eight-month project that will include implicit bias and diversity training. The Collective Impact Opportunity Fund at Fairfield County's Community Foundation has committed to funding the Norwalk Educational Equity Initiative. This invitation-only Fund makes grants to public agencies and non-profit organizations striving to close educational, workforce and other opportunity gaps among children, youth and families in Connecticut.
