HARTFORD, CT -- State and local officials during a socially distanced groundbreaking ceremony praised the 30,000-square-foot development’s goal of serving an additional 1,500 children in the city’s southeast corridor at the former Alfred E. Burr Elementary School.  A campaign aimed at financing the new clubhouse has raised $21 million of its $20-million fundraising goal to cover the cost of construction and operation of the club for the first five years. Donations of $1 million were also provided by Travelers Cos., Stanley Black & Decker and Raytheon Technologies Corp. (formerly United Technologies Corp.).  Bank of America donated $750,000, Hartford law firm Shipman & Goodwin LLP donated $250,000 and an anonymous donor contributed $1 million.

DANBURY, CT -- While many of the providers in the Cora’s Kids network were not operating during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic because their clients lost jobs or were afraid to send their children to care, 32 of the 35 providers in the network are now open and ready to begin accepting children into their programs. Cora’s Kids is part of the DanburyWORKS initiative, whose mission is to improve equity and the quality of life in the City of Danbury; United Way of Western Connecticut provides backbone support.

BERLIN, CT -- Comcast NBCUniversal today announced it has awarded $45,000 in scholarships for the 2020-2021 school year to 18 Connecticut students as part of its annual Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program. Students are selected for their outstanding community service, academic performance, and leadership skills. The award, funded by the Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation, is a one-time, $2,500 scholarship to be used toward undergraduate education-related expenses.
