Keynote features Darren Walker, president of The Ford Foundation
NEW HAVEN, CT -- More than 200 philanthropists, grantmakers and community leaders will gather on April 30 at the Omni Hotel in New Haven for the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy’s Annual Meeting and Philanthropy Awards, Philanthropy’s Role in Empowering Change--in recognition of the 50th anniversaries of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965--and honoring leaders in the philanthropic field.

1:00 pm: Keynote: Philanthropy’s Role in Empowering Change – DARREN WALKER, president of The Ford Foundation, will reflect on the history and the future of the foundation in the continued struggle for civil rights and on philanthropy’s role in empowering change.

- Session 1: The Essential Place of Equity in Philanthropy – Lori Villarosa, director of the Philanthropic Initiative for Racial Equity, and Carolyne Abdullah, director of community assistance and Valeriano Ramos, director of strategic alliances, both from Everyday Democracy, a project of The Paul J. Aicher Foundation
- Session 2: Educational Equity in Connecticut Schools – Susan Eaton, Research Director at the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race and Justice at Harvard Law School
