HARTFORD, CT -- Refugee families from Puerto Rico who are dropped from the Federal Emergency Management Administration’s transitional housing program may be eligible for assistance through a $200,000 grant awarded by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. The foundation announced this week that it is making the award to the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut, just as 37 families in the state — as of Wednesday — were expected to lose the FEMA or state aid that is supporting them at various hotels around the state, including Hartford’s Red Roof Inn.

HARTFORD, CT -- New pieces of dental and medical equipment will now outfit examination rooms at the Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective thanks to a $74,614 grant from CHEFA, the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority.  The Health Collective is the only health agency solely dedicated to serving the medical and dental needs of the metro Hartford LGBTQ community.

MIDDLETOWN, CT -- Kevin Wilhelm of Middlesex United Way announced that Middletown has won the Boston Federal Reserve Working Cities Challenge, which promotes economic growth throughout cities in Connecticut, as well as other parts of New England.
