TORRINGTON, CT -- The Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation Draper Foundation Fund and Marion Wm. and Alice Edwards Fund and through gifts from community members, have awarded 52 charitable organizations serving some of the area’s most economically distressed residents grants totaling $60,000. Grants will help provide the most basic of necessities – food, warm clothing and shelter.
“This is the time of year when a few extra dollars is really meaningful and to have these funds to help our clients through a time of year that can be difficult for many is very much appreciated,” said Sally Irwin of Litchfield Hills Chore Service.

Established in 1969, the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation serves 20 towns in Northwest Connecticut. Its total endowment, comprised of more than 280 funds, has grown from initial assets of $15,000 to almost $102 million. Last year, combined grants and scholarships totaled $4 million.
