CHARLOTTE, NC -- Bank of America today announced that more than $2.8 million has been delivered to Gulf Coast nonprofits collectively supporting short- and long-term Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. In addition to the previously announced $1 million in Hurricane Harvey relief funding the Bank of America Charitable Foundation committed to nonprofit organizations in the days following the hurricane, an outpouring of support from bank employee donations totaling more than $900,000 was also matched dollar-for-dollar through the company’s Employee Matching Gifts program.

WELLESLEY, MA -- Physician practices in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire will receive grant funding this year from Harvard Pilgrim Health Care’s Quality Grants Program. Harvard Pilgrim’s 19th annual grant program will fund 11 initiatives up to $100,000 with each designed to improve care delivery and reduce costs within a variety of care delivery models.

HARTFORD, CT -- Thanks to an $80,000 grant funded by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, the Connecticut Hospital Association (CHA) has been able to support the Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome Comprehensive Education and Needs Training (NASCENT) project. This project was created to educate clinicians about their role in decreasing opioid misuse, thus reducing the number of individuals exposed to opioids in the first place – a critical public health concern.

HARTFORD, CT -- New York state is leading a group of 18 states, 10 cities, four counties and the U.S. Conference of Mayors in a lawsuit against the Census Bureau and Commerce Department to try to remove a new citizenship question from the 2020 census questionnaire. It was originally filed April 3, more than a week after California filed a similar lawsuit in San Francisco federal court against Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, who oversees the bureau, and Census Bureau officials. The city of San Jose, Calif., as well as a group of individuals from Maryland and Arizona, have also taken separate legal actions to block the citizenship question. The states joining New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman's lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court are Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and Washington.
