Insurers' Aid On Hold As Hartford Works Through Financial Turmoil

HARTFORD, CT -- Hartford’s fiscal turmoil is putting on hold $50 million in aid from three major insurers. The largesse, promised in early March by chief executive officers Mark T. Bertolini of Aetna Inc., Christopher J. Swift of The Hartford and Alan D. Schnitzer of Travelers Cos. Inc., was conditioned on “being part of a comprehensive and sustainable solution” for Hartford, the executives said.

United Way Seeks Sponsors for Back-To-School Programs in Danbury and Greater New Milford

DANBURY, CT -- United Way of Western Connecticut(UWWC) is seeking sponsors from the community for its 2017 Back-To-School programs in Danbury and Greater New Milford to ensure that all children in need are served. Donations are kindly requested by August 9 to ensure we can meet demand before the August 16 and 18 distribution dates for families.

Culinary School in New Milford Receives Grant

NEW MILFORD, CT -- The Community Culinary School of Northwestern Connecticut, in New Milford, received a $3,500 grant from the People’s United Community Foundation. The Community Culinary School offers a 12-week culinary training and job placement program to unemployed and underemployed adults who want to start a career in the food-service industry.

Announcing the 2017-2018 Tow Playwrights in Residence

NEW CANAAN, CT -- The Tow Foundation announces their 2017-2018 Tow Playwrights-in-Residence at seven New York nonprofit theater companies. Each theater has been awarded a $75,000 grant to support their selected playwright. This is the third cohort selected for The Tow Foundation’s Playwright Residency Program.

Sharon Hospital Joins Health Quest

SHARON, CT -- Sharon Hospital’s patients can stay better connected with excellent healthcare services in their community now that the hospital has joined Health Quest, a family of hospitals and healthcare professionals based in the mid-Hudson Valley of New York.  The Foundation for Community Health, the nonprofit based in Sharon that brought Health Quest and Sharon Hospital together, will play an important role in the transition of the hospital to nonprofit status.
