TORRINGTON, CT -- Programs like the Torrington Area Youth Service Bureau’s Summer Youth Employment rely on financial support from the state to function. With no approved state budget in June, the summer program was in jeopardy of being canceled completely. But a recent donation from Eversource helped organizers of the program to hire four students.

NEW LONDON, CT -- The lack of a state budget has kept $500,000 in state funding from making its way to Eastern Connecticut for the region's Summer Youth Employment Program. Led by the Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board several organizations collectively contributed $375,334 to keep it going. Contributing organizations were the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut Foundation, Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut, Liberty Bank Foundation, Mystic Aquarium, New London Public Schools, Windham Regional Community Council and People's United Community Foundation, along with federal funds.
NEW BRITAIN - The American Savings Foundation’s board of directors recently announced almost $500,000 in grants to support youth-oriented programs over the coming school year. The announcement comes on the heels of a recent Community Needs Assessment done by Klingberg Family Centers and the Coalition for New Britain Youth, which found that 49 percent of middle school students say they are involved in local youth programs.

Cox Charities Community Grants supports non-profit organizations providing summer enrichment and after-school programming focusing on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) learning.
