Join the CT Early Childhood Funders Collaborative for an exclusive conversation with national experts Sherri Killins Stewart, Ed.D and Shannon Rudisill on effective approaches for philanthropy to support and sustain Black leadership in early care and education systems. This program is designed for trustees, donors, and philanthropic staff.

Philanthropy has come to understand that effective early care and education requires all communities to be engaged and supported in doing this crucial work, especially communities of color who historically have been left out of many conversations. This issue is especially important now as Connecticut considers how to use federal dollars to reimagine its child care system to be more affordable, accessible, and equitable.

As Executive Director of the National Early Childhood Funders Collaborative, Shannon Rudisill will provide a birds eye view of early care and education philanthropy, reflecting on what has gone well and where there are opportunities to grow philanthropy’s effectiveness.

Sherri Killins Stewart will share the results of dozens of interviews she conducted with Black leaders in early care and education from around the country, including: the mismatch between what communities have identified as solutions with what philanthropy wants to fund; the lack of networking support for Black leaders; the challenges of navigating philanthropy; and recommendations to funders.

We will conclude with discussion of some specific actions Connecticut funders can take next working in partnership with the early care and education community.
