Join the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy for this important series designed to provide background, essential information, and an understanding of the fundamentals of working in philanthropy. Led by Council staff and members with experience and expertise, this virtual series will:
- provide a historical overview of philanthropy and the types of foundations,
- review from a governance and legal lens what foundations can and can’t do,
- delve into the art and process of grantmaking,
- explore the different roles and power dynamics of working in philanthropy, and
- examine big questions and debates around impact strategies.
Fundamentals of Philanthropy will take place over five sessions that build on each other. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend all five sessions. Each session will also include time to get to know your fellow participants and grow your professional networks.
All sessions will take place virtually from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., Monday January 23 through Friday January 27, 2023.

To celebrate the completion of the Fundamentals of Philanthropy series, CCP invites all participants and presenters from the series to join us for lunch. Additional details will be released closer to the date.
Who should attend? This series is for anyone who has joined the sector in the last few years, or who is interested in reviewing the fundamentals. It is open to all staff and board of philanthropic organizations, including those in leadership, program, grantmaking, administrative, financial, human resources, communications, development, and trustee roles.
Fundamentals of Philanthropy is an update of CCP’s Philanthropy 101 curriculum, originally developed by Philanthropy New York in partnership with the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy's Grantmaking School.

Non-member Funders: $500
CCP members enrolled in the Fundamentals of Philanthropy will also receive a complimentary registration for CCP’s Implicit Bias training in February 2023, and an in-person networking luncheon to take place in Spring 2023.
This series is open to board and staff of CCP member organizations and non-member grantmaking organizations.
Registrants who have paid for this event can receive a full refund up to one week prior to the date of the event. Participants are unable to receive a refund after this date, however, they may send another participant in their place. Review CCP's full cancellation policy.
