Criteria, Eligibility and Nomination Forms for the Newman Award

 

The Martha S. Newman Award

honors an individual who has demonstrated outstanding staff performance

in serving the philanthropic community.

This award will next be given in 2021.

Criteria

The Connecticut Council for Philanthropy will recognize an individual for his/her outstanding staff performance in serving the philanthropic community. Nominees should exemplify personal integrity, dedication to the philanthropic field and a willingness to share their knowledge and expertise.


Eligibility

  • Nominees must be on the staff of a grantmaking organization at the time of the nomination or have retired within the past year.
  • Nominees must have demonstrated sustained and exemplary service to one or more grantmaking organizations and the philanthropic sector in Connecticut or in a region of the state.
  • Nominees should have a history of providing counsel and mentoring to their peers.
  • Only individuals are eligible for the award. Institutions are not eligible.
  • Any grantmaker or nonprofit in Connecticut is eligible to make a nomination.
  • This award is given to individuals during their lifetime.
  • Previously nominated individuals who are not selected may be re-nominated in succeeding years by submission of updated nominating information.
  • Current members of the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy’s board of directors and members of the award committee are not eligible to receive The Martha S. Newman Award.

Selection

The Connecticut Council for Philanthropy will appoint a committee to review nominations and to select the honoree. This award will be given in conjunction with CCP’s Annual Conference in spring 2021.


Nomination Process

  • Any grantmaker or nonprofit in Connecticut is eligible to make a nomination.
  • Write a letter of nomination describing the nominee related to the selection criteria. Be specific in your comments.
  • Complete the nomination form.
  • Attach a copy of your nominee’s curriculum vitae or bio.
