Amid State Funding Cuts, Nonprofits Rethink Their Operations
HARTFORD, CT -- Funding for private nonprofit human service organizations was cut again last week when Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s administration announced it would be holding back about $181.6 million in what’s termed a “lapse.” “The human service spending cuts announced today by Governor Malloy come after more than a decade of underfunding of Connecticut’s community nonprofits and repeated budget reductions in recent years,” Gian-Carl Casa, president and CEO of CT Community Nonprofit Alliance, said. The article also mentions Connecticut Council for Philanthropy's survey on "Grantmaker Response to State Fiscal Crisis."

MIDDLESEX COUNTY, CT -- The local public transportation system, 9 Town Transit (9TT), is partnering with the United Way to bring transportation to the residents of Puerto Rico who have landed in Connecticut following the devastating hurricane, Maria. To help provide this service, 9TT has started a fund-raiser. For $59, a donor may purchase a pass that will provide unlimited service on all 9TT bus routes, six days a week for an entire calendar month. Passengers can board a 9TT bus in Middletown, ride down to Old Saybrook, and transfer all the way to Madison or East Lyme.
