Youth Voice & COVID-19
NEW HAVEN, CT -- In April of 2020, as part of our institutional response to COVID19, The Perrin Family Foundation launched a youth communication project intended to capture how young people were experiencing the global crisis. Over the next few weeks the Foundation will be sharing the youth experiences and connecting the stories to larger themes and issues.
Summer Youth Learning and Employment Program to serve 1,500 of the Region’s Youth
HARTFORD, CT -- Capital Workforce Partners (CWP) is pleased to announce that the Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program (SYELP) will serve nearly 1,500 youth throughout North Central Connecticut at a time when youth and families are being disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 and high unemployment. The sources of SYELP funding include a $1 million commitment from the City of Hartford, $300,000 from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, $150,000 from the Travelers Foundation, $60,000 from the JP Morgan Chase Foundation, $15,000 from the Bank of America Foundation, and $34,500 from the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority (CHEFA). Funds from the State of CT Youth Employment Program, and the CT Department of Children and Families have also been committed.

Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford Grants $120,000 to Support Strategic Growth of JTConnect
WEST HARTFORD, CT -- The Jewish Teen Learning Connection (JTConnect) in West Hartford is witnessing impressive growth. According to the organization, there’s an 83 percent increase in teen participation since 2017 with approximately 400 teens participating in JTConnect’s programs. Due to this growth, the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford (JCF) awarded JTConnect a $120,000 multi-year Springboard Grant to help the nonprofit build its capacity to ensure continued, sustainable growth.

HARTFORD, CT -- With the support of up to $2.1 million (depending on number of students participating) from the City of Hartford (up to $1,000,000), the State of Connecticut/Connecticut Department of Labor (up to $696,000), and the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving (up to $526,000), the 2019 Summer Youth Employment Learning Program will serve more than 1,000 participants in Hartford and up to 1,500 throughout the region.

EAST HARTFORD, CT -- The YMCA of Greater Hartford was recently joined by representatives of Comcast and YMCA program families to honor over 100 East Hartford students for their successful completion of the Y-BELL Power Scholars Academy. For the third consecutive year Comcast provided a cash and in-kind grant totaling $18,000 to support Power Scholars Academy and YMCA Celebrates Champions programs and events. Comcast’s in-kind support included a lap-top computer, which was presented at the ceremony to one student who had perfect attendance.
