GREENWICH, CT -- This week the Fairfield County native and singer-songwriter told his father, Richard Mayer, that his more than four decades as a Bridgeport educator would not soon be forgotten. To celebrate his father’s 90th birthday, which was a few days before John Mayer turns 40 on Monday, the songwriter set up a college scholarship fund through Fairfield County’s Community Foundation to commemorate his dad’s legacy.

ROCKY HILL, CT -- The United Way of Connecticut’s statewide 2-1-1 call center in Rocky Hill has already had hundreds of calls from Puerto Rican families seeking help for family members expected to be coming here. United Way President and C.E.O. Richard Porth said there are many families looking for help. "About sixty percent, two-thirds of the calls we’re getting are people looking for relocation assistance. We’re hearing that older adults may be among the first to arrive because of health concerns, things of that nature.”

In its first year, Mayor Luke Bronin’s youth service corps has put more than 200 young people to work on hundreds of projects across Hartford. The program, anchored last year by $2.2 million in private donations, has received enough funds to push ahead for another 12 months. Funds came from insurance giants like The Travelers, Aetna and The Hartford, and from the Newman’s Own Foundation, the Dalio Foundation and other charitable groups.
