DERBY, CT -- The Valley Community Foundation (VCF) is pleased to announce that $881,000 has been awarded to 11 organizations as a result of its 2017 Responsive Grants process. This is the largest multi-year grant commitment in VCF’s history. With governmental budgets in flux and an ever-growing need for services, there has never been a more important time for VCF to support organizations committed to this region. PROSPECT, CT -- The second annual Hartford Bishops’ Foundation Gala at the Aria in Prospect on Nov. 18 raised more than $1.7 million to support Catholic education and faith formation for people of all ages in the Archdiocese of Hartford. The gala was chaired by Jim Torgerson, CEO of Avangrid, Inc., and his wife MaryAnn. Torgerson is a regional chairman of the Hartford Bishops’ Foundation.

WESTPORT, CT -- Newman's Own Foundation, founded by the late actor and philanthropist Paul Newman, has teamed up with CrowdRise, now part of GoFundMe—the world's largest social fundraising platform—to sponsor CrowdRise's annual Holiday Challenge. Launching November 21, right before Giving Tuesday, and lasting through January 3, the Newman's Own Foundation Holiday Challenge will donate half a million dollars to competing charities, based on certain criteria and challenges over the course of the campaign. This year's program marks the largest holiday challenge to date for CrowdRise, with over 4,000 nonprofits registered to participate.

The nonprofit is being recognized for its holistic, integrated approach to helping area residents gain and retain employment. WASHINGTON — A groundbreaking study released today by Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago reveals one in 10 young adults between the ages of 18 and 25, and at least one in 30 adolescents between the age of 13 and 17 experience some form of homelessness over the course of a year. This study captures youth homelessness broadly, including situations such as sleeping on the streets, in shelters, running away, and couch surfing.  CCP member Melville Charitable Trust is one of several funders who supported the research.
