MIDDLETOWN, CT -- Wesleyan’s Patricelli Center for Social Entrepreneurship received a $10,000 grant from the Newman’s Own Foundation to support student internships. “The gift from the Newman Foundation will be used to offer stipends to students doing social impact and entrepreneurship work during the summer,” explained Makaela Kingsley ’98, director of the Patricelli Center for Social Entrepreneurship. “We are grateful for the support of Newman’s Own and our other donors who make this work possible.”

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, CT -- United Way of Coastal Fairfield and United Way of Western Connecticut have partnered with Hearst Connecticut Media Group to provide funds with those in need. The Hearst papers publish brief stories with anonymous names and invite readers to donate to a case that resonates to them. Every cent raised goes directly to the client, as the resources to run the program are donated.

TORRINGTON, CT -- The Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation through the Draper Foundation Fund, the Marion Wm. and Alice Edwards Fund, and through gifts made by an anonymous local donor, has awarded 53 charitable organizations serving some of the area’s most economically distressed residents grants totaling $60,000. Grants will help provide the most basic of necessities – food, warm clothing and shelter.

The Fund awarded $546,750 to 19 designated nonprofits and $217,228 in donor-advised grants to nonprofits that provide essential programs and services for residents of Northwest Connecticut.

WEST HARTFORD — When Roszena Haskins and Kerry Jones first heard that their proposed storytelling grant application was approved last November, they were ecstatic. With a $50,000 Inspiring Equity grant from the William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund, the grant coordinators set out to find a unique approach to bring the community together through the lens of individual and collective stories. Now, one year later, the product of this initiative will be unveiled in a high-tech, multi-media exhibit that will be shared on Dec. 14 and 16, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Town Hall Auditorium, 50 South Main Street. The exhibit is free and open to all.
