As Tax Deadline Looms, Newman’s Own Marks $500M Milestone

NORWALK, CT -- Newman’s Own Foundation has reached the milestone of $500 million in donations since 1982, when the late actor Paul Newman began selling salad dressing and devoting profits to charities. But the foundation is inching closer to a self-proclaimed April deadline at which point it has indicated it could begin the process of soliciting buyers for the operating company that has been the engine that generates its funds. That would happen if Congress does not create an exemption for huge excise taxes it faces under the new Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

Aetna Foundation’s New Awards Shine the “Spotlight” on Programs That Are Improving Community Health

HARTFORD, CT -- The Aetna Foundation today announced 10 community health programs nationwide, and including one program in Connecticut, that are receiving their newly-launched “Spotlight Award.” The award is part of the Healthiest Cities & Counties Challenge (the Challenge), an initiative launched in 2016 that supports 50 small-to-midsize cities and counties that are implementing innovative solutions to pressing public health issues in their communities. Along with the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the National Association of Counties (NACo), the Aetna Foundation selected these 50 programs because of their ability to tackle social determinants of health (SDoH) that frequently lead to chronic health issues.

Newman's Own Foundation Launches #Newmanitarian Campaign Asking People to Commit Acts of Kindness

WESTPORT, CT -- In recognition of reaching the milestone of $500 milliondonated to charity, Newman's Own Foundation has launched a #Newmanitarian campaign, calling for acts of kindness. This can include small gestures of being kind, doing good deeds, and extending generosity towards others. Individuals are asked to visit Newmanitarian.org and take a pledge to give back. Newmanitarians can then share the pledge and their good deeds on social media.
