The contest, organized by the American Bankers Association Foundation, is a national competition that encourages teens to use video to communicate the value of saving money and inspire their peers to become lifelong savers.

To commence the celebration, the bank today announced a $175,000 grant from People's United Community Foundation to Junior Achievement USA, who will use the funding for upcoming regional financial literacy and career-readiness programs for youth across six states that align with the People's United footprint, including: CT, NY, MA, VT, NH, ME. This is the single largest one-time grant gifted by the Foundation to a non-profit organization since launching in 2007.
HARTFORD, CT -- The Hartford Youth Service Corps kicked off its second year of helping youth participate in paid community service projects Thursday. This year, Mayor Luke Bronin raised $2.5 million for the YSC. Funders include: Barbara Dalio and the Dalio Foundation, the Travelers Foundation, the Newman's Own Foundation, United Technologies Corporation, The Hartford, the Aetna Foundation, and Key Bank.
In its first year, Mayor Luke Bronin’s youth service corps has put more than 200 young people to work on hundreds of projects across Hartford. The program, anchored last year by $2.2 million in private donations, has received enough funds to push ahead for another 12 months. WETHERSFIELD, CT -- The Department of Motor Vehicles and Travelers announced today their joint sponsorship of the 10th annual Teen Safe Driving Video contest for high school students around the state. The theme this year is: “Teen Safe Driver: Could This Be You? Every Second Matters.” DMV and Travelers partner each year to raise awareness about safety behind the wheel with the state’s youngest and most inexperienced drivers. The goal is to create peer-to-peer education and influence about developing safe driving habits.
HARTFORD, CT -- Hartford is home to an estimated 6,000 youth ages 16 to 24 who are neither in school nor working, often referred to as “Opportunity Youth.” One of the most significant needs these young people have is obtaining soft job skills, training, credentials, and real world work experience that employers demand. Some of these young people will receive the training and opportunities they need thanks to a two-year, $250,000 grant from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving to Billings Forge Community Works, in collaboration with Our Piece of the Pie®, Inc. (OPP®), that will support an Opportunity Youth Job Training Program.
HARTFORD, CT -- Capitol Workforce placed over 600 Hartford youth in summer employment roles in lieu of a state budget, where some of its funding has come from in the past. The summer employment program was available to Hartford youth this summer due to funding from the city and the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.

HARTFORD CT – AUGUST 21, 2017 - The Comcast Foundation announced today that it has awarded a $20,000 grant to the Center for Latino Progress’ FUTUROS program. FUTUROS targets Hartford’s Latino youth who face obstacles that might otherwise prevent them from being able to achieve their life goals and offers training, activities, and youth employment opportunities to help them prepare for college and technical careers.
TORRINGTON, CT -- Programs like the Torrington Area Youth Service Bureau’s Summer Youth Employment rely on financial support from the state to function. With no approved state budget in June, the summer program was in jeopardy of being canceled completely. But a recent donation from Eversource helped organizers of the program to hire four students.
NEW BRITAIN - The American Savings Foundation’s board of directors recently announced almost $500,000 in grants to support youth-oriented programs over the coming school year. The announcement comes on the heels of a recent Community Needs Assessment done by Klingberg Family Centers and the Coalition for New Britain Youth, which found that 49 percent of middle school students say they are involved in local youth programs.

NEW LONDON, CT -- The lack of a state budget has kept $500,000 in state funding from making its way to Eastern Connecticut for the region's Summer Youth Employment Program. Led by the Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board several organizations collectively contributed $375,334 to keep it going. Contributing organizations were the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut Foundation, Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut, Liberty Bank Foundation, Mystic Aquarium, New London Public Schools, Windham Regional Community Council and People's United Community Foundation, along with federal funds.
